In my blog last week, I talked about some of the signs of burnout. If you are experiencing some of those symptoms, don’t worry. There are many things that we can do to help us recover from burnout. Here are my top tips:

Seek help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Surrounding yourself with people that love and care about you can help to lift your spirits when you are at your lowest. Reach out to family, friends, colleagues, organizations and/or professionals for support.

Set boundaries

Know your limits and set clear boundaries in your life. You have to think of what is best for your physical and mental health, instead of what you a capable of. This means being assertive and prioritizing your needs.

Rest

Sleep and relaxation are essential for recovering from burnout. Make sure that you are getting at least 8 hours of quality sleep each night and not overworking yourself during the day. It is also a good idea to practice stress mitigation techniques on a daily basis. This includes meditating, deep breathing, and journaling.

Add joy into your life

When you are feeling run-down, it’s important to add some joy to your life. Make time to do things that you enjoy and that make you happy.

Take care of your needs

When you have your basic needs met, you are more resilient to stress. In addition to sleep, make sure that you are taking care of your other basic needs. Ensure that you are eating well, hydrating and moving your body in a way that suits you.
