"Knowledge is understanding ideas logically in our heads, wisdom - is bringing this knowing into our body"
- Jesse Hanson

Jesse holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, specializing in somatic psychology and neuropsychology. He completed his Ph.D. in 2015 from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He also holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. In addition to his academic pursuits, Jesse has spent over 18 years of training with different holistic and shamanic teachers. He has explored the ancient ways through meditation and ceremony and has explored modern ways through psychoneurobiology and quantum physics. These experiences helped foster a realization that two different languages speak the same truth: the mind and body are deeply interconnected, deeply influenced by one another, and the union of the two creates a natural evolution to occur.

INTERVIEW SUMMARY OF WISDOM:⠀ ⠀⠀

  • What it means to embody the knowledge we learn on the path of healing

  • Neuropsychology – application of neuroscience into Psychology

  • We are more than just thinking beings – we are feeling and body-based beings

  • It is key to bring the body into the healing process

  • We play out our behaviors in our bodies – even if we logically understand we “should not” be doing something, that alone does not usually change behavior.

  • Pain is a teacher in our lives – if we choose to see it that way

  • We live in a time with so many easy distractions

  • As a culture – it is easier to skate around our pain, then to sit with it, work with it – this, however, leads to addiction, physical pain, and mental health issues

  • Knowledge – is when we intellectually know – but this does not lead to behavior change

  • Embodiment – the link from knowledge to wisdom IN THE BODY - this requires staying vs. distracting; this requires learning how to listen to the body

  • We have to MOVE THROUGH THE PAIN – to feel the light, love, and expansiveness

  • Sequencing – getting in touch with a suppressed emotion – allowing it to come out

  • Culture is so supportive of dissociation, distraction, addiction, technology – this gives a HUGE challenge for healing

  • We are hard-wired for addiction as a human species – Know your story - how did these addictions get into place – looking back into childhood is important to understand – because the associations started there

  • WE HAVE TO STUDY OURSELVES DEEPER

  • Common treatment of addiction is will power – this DOES NOT SOLVE the problem Mass majority of people don’t want to talk emotions, and emotions live in the body – therefore we are shutting down the ability to be in the body and the ability to heal and transform
