Human beings are so alike. Understanding this starts a healing process.

Our humanness can connect or separate. The choice is yours.

So many of us say "I feel so alone." (even if they are surrounded by tons of people!). We feel lonely - and yet most people do not show their true selves to anyone. If you are behind a wall, covering up your true self.  Pretending to the world.   Even if people are around, even if you have a partner, kids, siblings... you will feel lonely.  And this is by far the worst kind of loneliness.  The one that does not make sense, because you live in a house full of people!!  Does this resonate?

We all have so much armour: Perfectionism, body image issues, people pleasing, workaholism, proving….ifs exhausting!

If you want to feel less lonely, you must be willing to be vulnerable and authentic. Period. It takes courage, but there is no other way.

And when you can accept that we are all alike and you are not flawed or different, that is when true healing at a deep level begins. This is where connection vs separation from self happens. This is when you become your own ally vs your own enemy. This changes everything. Shame and self criticism stagnate growth. Your relationship with your whole self is essential for growth and change.

I have worked with humans in a very deep way for 20 plus years. Everyone I have ever met personally or professionally has a story. Every single person has struggled with anxiety/depression/trauma. Everyone has had challenges with addictions and/or self sabotaging behaviours, difficult relationships, fears, SHAME, trauma, grief, loss. An impulsive vs an intentional self, dysregulation.

Everyone, if they get honest, has suffered with self worth issues, body image issues, imposter syndrome.

Am I right? Do you agree?

If the answer is yes. You are human too. Congrats! We are walking this earth separate yet connected by the fact that we are all coming from the same brain, organs; skin, nose, eyes, mouth. The human is made in similar form, in a varied way. But similar form to all…you are not flawed or unique. You have the same human brain and organs and skin as everyone else. Different colors and shapes, same science.

Let’s start waking up to the narrative that to not feel so alone inside, you must not let the inside be hidden to everyone.  Hiding parts makes those parts lonely....no matter what they are.   Have people in your life that you feel safe enough to show your humanness .  The real you without the armour. The struggles not the perfectionism and the failures not just the wins.

We all want to feel connected. The way is to be real and human. In that. connection is fierce and powerful.  As Brene Brown says "Vulnerability is the birthplace of connection."

In the last two years, during my separation I was lucky enough to find a flock of like minded women who allowed me to be me in all her forms, and it has been one of the most healing agents on my path to recovery.

Find people who you don’t have to hide yourself from. That is freedom. Let down the armour, life is short. We all want and need real connection so desperately.

In a world where connection has become a box in your hand, and people are suffering with mental health issues more than ever;  At the core, I truly believe we are all so lonely -  from all our compiled years of armour and hiding.

Humans are looking in all the wrong places and ways for hits of connection, but our hearts and brains and soul need something different.

Less show, more authenticity. Less armour, more truth. Less proving, more trusting and being.

I hope this resonates.  And more so, I hope you feel more human reading it.

From your fellow human ,

Jodi
